The Ontario Minor Hockey Association (OMHA) has released important updates regarding team officials' qualification requirements for the 2026-2027 season, highlighting new programs and transitions in training certifications.
- Shift Forward Program Launch: Starting April 1, 2026, Hockey Canada will introduce the 'Shift Forward: Evolving Hockey Culture' program aimed at changing unhealthy behaviors in hockey. This program will be mandatory for all coaches, rostered staff, parents/guardians, and officials from the 2026-27 season onward, gradually replacing the Respect in Sport (RiS) platform by the end of the 2027-2028 season. New participants are advised to delay training until after the program launch to complete the Shift Forward training.
- Transition from HTCP to HCSP: The Hockey Canada Safety Program (HCSP) will replace the Hockey Trainer Certification Program (HTCP) in Ontario starting in the 2026-2027 season. Existing HTCP qualifications remain valid until expiry. Registration for HTCP Level 1 and refresher clinics closes on March 31, 2026, with course completion deadlines by April 30, 2026. Failure to complete by this date requires re-registration under HCSP. Support and help desk assistance will be available during this transition.
- Communication and Support: OMHA encourages member associations to inform their participants about these changes and to contact Regional Directors or OMHA Development Staff for questions or clarifications regarding the qualification requirements and transition processes.
