U10A St Catherines Early Bird Champions
The U10A River Kings travelled to St. Catharines for an early bird tournament this past weekend.

The first game was Friday morning vs the Welland Tigers from our own league (NDHL) and what a great way to kick off our tournament play with a rival game! The River Kings were victorious and the tone was set.

Game 2 was against the Spitfires of Erindale and our Haldimand River Kings kept rolling with a dominating win.

Saturday morning the boys kept buzzing as they were set to clash with the Collingwood Blues. This game was tied 0-0 going into the 3rd.  The kids kept their composure, stuck to the game plan and were ready to battle.  Early into the 3rd we managed to solve this very skilled goal tender from Collingwood and didn't look back giving us another victory!

Our final game of the round robin was another game vs a rival opponent from our league the Glancaster Bombers.  They were ready and gave us all we could handle in a tight game.  The Bombers goalie kept this one close but their club came up a bit short in the game!

We finished the round robin in 1st place with a goal differential of +30 and drew the Collingwood Blues again on Sunday morning.   We knew it would be a close battle and they would want some revenge.  This semi finals game didn’t disappoint and our boys weathered an early storm then went into another gear and shut out the Blues advancing to the finals!

The Welland Tigers won their game over the Oakville Rangers to set up a rematch.  The rivalry was continued, the Tigers came out flying and buried an early goal but our team wasn’t fazed one bit.  We’ve been in this position before and they just competed and out worked the tigers for the balance of the game.  The River Kings learned a lot and are looking forward to this regular season but until then they are Champions!

What they accomplished to this point is incredible.  The teams stat line this weekend was 42 goals for 5 against in 6 games.  Way to go team!! On behalf of this staff and all the parents we’re very proud of you all.
