Our U10A team entered the October Storm Classic in Tillsonburg and Ingersoll this past weekend.
Friday afternoon we played the St. Mary’s Rock and the Dorchester Dragon and our boys came out buzzing winning in both games giving us a +10 in the tourney differential going in to Saturday.
On Saturday we played the Kent Cobras and tournament host South Oxford Storm. Our boys won both those games leaving us with. +20 according to the tournament differential along with securing 1st place in the round robin.
This set up a re match with St. Mary’s Rock as the Kent Cobras were eliminated. Our boys won this semi final game early Sunday morning and we awaited our opponent.
The Storm beat the Dragons setting up a highly anticipated re match. This game didn’t disappoint, it’s everything we wanted in an opponent! This team moved the puck as well as us and skated very good. The Storm scored a goal early in the 1st as they did in game 1 but we out shot them and controlled most of the play. Despite the score board we felt like we dominated this period. Early in the 2nd we scored 2 giving us the lead however the Storm wasn’t fazed and answered with a big goal. The game was tied late into the 3rd but South Oxford scored the go ahead goal an insurance goal then an empty net goal. Beating us 5-2 to claim the Championship.
Our boys competed right to the end and displayed great sportsmanship to a very good club. On behalf of our staff, the parent group, extended families and all the supporters are very proud of you Haldimand Riverkings!!!
We meet this team again in game 1 in our next tournament and we’re looking forward to playing them again.
