What an experience to
play in the International Silver Stick.
We started out Thursday afternoon playing a very good team in South Oxford and if you have followed our team this year we have had some very good battles back and forth. This opening game was no different. They came out strong and played very well. We were down 1-0 late into the 3rd but determination and consistency to our game plan paid off. We tied this up and we finished 1-1 to start out with a point. Good start vs a very good club, so we’re happy.
No rest as we we’re back on the ice in the early morning hours of 7am vs Traverse City MI.
We didn’t have much info on this team so we just stuck to what works and played our game. We led from start to finish winning this one 7-0.
Friday night was a skills competition.
In order for coaches to decide who represents our team our players competed against each other in practice prior in order to determine the three lucky kids
Abram Kelleher was our fastest skater
Tucker White was our puck handler
Landon Ford was our breakaway challenger
All three guys represented our group well did their best and we are very proud of them for being in the spotlight preforming for so many packed in this arena.
During the festivities a pin exchange between team members was going on. This was the best part of the tournament for me showed sportsmanship and friendship throughout the game with so many different people from some many cities. Our kids were very respectful and professional and collected/traded pins with so many. This was such a wonderful experience to watch.
After the skills competition the opening ceremony took place where Lincoln Riley represented our group to conclude a very long day. 78 players (1 from each team in this tournament) of all ages and levels were announced.
Saturday morning we were back on the ice for another 7am game where we were victorious in dominating fashion winning 14-0 over the tourney host Newmarket Renegades. Our 2nd game Saturday and the 4th of the round robin we played Forest Hill to close out the round robin winning 6 -0. With this game we also punched a ticket to the semi final later this night.
After the 4 games your u10 River kings were sitting in 1st 28GF 1GA .966%GF which is very impressive.
For our 3rd game this day we played St Thomas and we knew they would be ready. This game was a barn burner and very emotional to say the least and we won this one 3-1 sending us the final Sunday morning.
The other semi was South Oxford and Belle River
And Belle River won this 7-3 setting up an amazing final 1v2 in Ontario.
Belle River came out and popped 2 quick goals and we replied with 1 and we thought we had them where we needed them. They kept up the pressure and went up 4-1, our kids battled to a 6-2 loss. This Sunday wasn’t our day but we are very proud of placing second in what could very well be a once in a lifetime time opportunity.
Hold your head high kids
2nd place in the International Silver Sticks is a great accomplishment and we’re so proud of you.
Looking forward to the playoffs in the NDHL and a chance to represent Haldimand in the OMHA!!
Let’s go achieve our team goals!
Thanks to all the parents, sponsors and all the supporters around the hockey community
