Haldimand Minor Hockey Ready for Open Borders
The Ontario Hockey Federation (OHF), the governing body for all sanctioned ice hockey in Ontario, has confirmed that, starting next season, borders will be fully open across the province for U10 and above, at all levels including House/Local League, Advanced League, BB, A, AA, and AAA.

Players aged U10 and older will be able to join any team in Ontario without the need for a release. Players from any area will be able to join teams outside their home regions without restrictions. This represents the most significant shift in minor hockey in the past 30 years, presenting both challenges and opportunities.

As this policy unfolds, the new reality of Open Borders will continue to shape the future of minor hockey, creating opportunities for players, coaches, and communities alike. We are fully committed to adapting to this new reality. We will work towards creating a positive environment where all players can thrive not only on the ice but also in the community.

What does this mean
for River Kings players and their families?

The River Kings will continue its commitment to provide hockey opportunities for local players. The goal will be to ensure that our programming and resources are aligned in a way that retains a focus on our local players while also attracting complementary talent from other areas to create a developmental and competitive environment that makes us the top choice for players and families.

Comprehensive Development Programs

We are dedicated to player development with several initiatives aimed at building skills and confidence:

  • ·    Pre-Tryout Development Sessions: Offered each spring, these sessions prepare players for tryouts with expert coaching and skill-building drills.
  • ·    Pre-Season & In-Season Development: Development sessions are included with Rep Fees, ensuring consistent growth throughout the year.
  • ·    Extra Ice & Development Opportunities: Teams are able to purchase extra ice through our association for skill development, giving players more time on the ice to hone their abilities.
  • ·    Coach-Led Video Sessions: Some of our experienced coaches use video analysis to help players improve their game sense, positioning and decision-making.

Age-Appropriate Ice Time

We prioritize age-appropriate and consistent ice times within our four Haldimand arenas to ensure a balanced schedule for players and their families.

As Open Borders reshape the hockey landscape, Haldimand is committed to leading with innovation, community, and a focus on player development.
