Haldimand River Kings U11 are Silver Stick Champions!!!!
On November 22-24 the U11A River Kings traveled to Pelham to compete in a Regional Silver Stick Tournament. The winner of this tournament would qualify for the North American Championship Tournament held in Sarnia later in the season.
We started the tournament off on the Friday against a tough Burlington Eagles team that we played earlier in the year where the Kings won in a shootout. This game was just as close with a final score of 0-0. With the first game out of the way we then matched up against the Dorchester Dragons where we would be victorious by a score of 3-0.
Saturday we would have our final round robin game against the Milton Winterhawks where we would end up with a 2-2 draw. This would be enough to put us in second place of our pool and get us to Championship Sunday.
Sunday started us off against the Burlington Jr Raiders who were first place in the other pool. Both teams were well-prepared for this game but Haldimand would come out with the 3-2 win and put them into the Championship Game against the Oakville Rangers.
The River Kings matched up against this tough team in the finals of another tournament and knew they were not happy about getting beat. Your Kings jumped out to a 1-0 lead only to have the Rangers tie it back up shortly after. Haldimand would be able to put one more on the board before the end of the first period to go ahead 2-1. The second period was back and forth with Haldimand scoring one more to go ahead 3-1 to end the second. With a flood between the periods the Kings came back out and played great defensive hock and were able to lock down the win by a score of 3-1.
In 5 games the Kings went undefeated and only gave up 5 goals while scoring 11. Good luck to these boys in Sarnia playing for the North American Silver Stick Championship in January.
