The River Kings U10 A Team are South Simcoe Storm Classic Champs
On October 13th - 15th the Haldimand U10A River Kings traveled to South Simcoe to compete in the South Simcoe Storm Classic Hockey Tournament.  This would be the boys second tournament of the year and they were coming in on a hot streak!!

The boys started Friday morning and the River Kings first opponent would be the Aurora Tigers. The boys were ready for this game and put the pressure on early. The Tigers were on their heals for most of the game and when the final buzzer sounder the River Kings won 13-0. Their second game on Friday afternoon was against the Mississippi Thunder Kings. Once again the Kings had their foot on the gas at the start of the game and after the first period were up 3-0. The boys seemed to relax a bit during the second period and after two periods the score was 3-2. The third went back and forth with Mississippi tying it up with three minutes left but the River Kings were able to pot one last goal with two minutes left to win the game 4-3!!
On to Saturday with two more games to play in the round robin. Their first was against a solid Owen Sound Attack squad. After a slow first period the score was still 0-0. With a quick intermission pep talk and some words of wisdom the boys were ready and scored two in the second to go up 2-0. With a lone goal in the third the final score was 3-0. Now on to the host team the South Simcoe Storm. This game the boys were firing on all cylinders.  The Storm didn't know what hit them and the scoreboard at the end showed 7-1 Kings.
This would put us in the semi finals Sunday morning against a home town rival the Glancaster Bombers. The River Kings caught the bombers sleeping at the start of this 7:00 am game and after one period the score was 2-0. The second period was like the first with four quick goals to go up 6-0 with the final being 7-0.
On to the Championship game against the strong Mississippi team. This was a back and forth game with great play by both teams. When the first buzzer sounded the score was 1-1. The second period our River Kings scored 2 quick goals but Mississippi was able to get one of there own to put Haldimand up 3-2. In the third Mississippi scored to tie the game but Haldimand got one back shortly after to keep the lead. With less than 40 seconds left the Thunder Kings scored to tie the game 4-4 and send it to overtime. Overtime would be 3 on 3 for 10 minutes of run time but neither team was able to solve the other goalie. It was now off to a shoot out. With the pressure on, the boys would come out with a shoot out win by a score of 3-1 to take the Championship!!!
Congratulations to the River Kings players and coaches for a great tournament!!!  Keep it going!!!
