This past weekend was the first tournament for the U9 MD Haldimand
River Kings. We started out playing Thorold Blackhawks from the
Niagara District Hockey League (NDHL) and the River Kings won convincingly.
Game two was vs the Burlington Bulldogs and the team dealt with a stronger
skating team but came out on top.
They won their pod with 2 wins 19 goals for and 1 goal against,
advancing to Sunday with a date against the Pelham Panthers. The
River Kings battled hard, dealt with a different defensive scheme and ended up
winning the game!!
The tournament host, the West Niagara Flying Aces, won their side
and we met them when the division crossed over for the semis! Winner would get the Hamilton Huskies or Kingston Canadians. We never dealt with
adversity to date, but we were pushed to the limit by this dangerous
team. We were up 5-2 and WNFA came storming back 5-4. The
boys stepped up their game and shut the door to win this hard-fought
battle. The Canadians from Kingston beat the
Huskies!! Let’s gooo boys we have one more job to do.
In the Championship game, Kings go up early 2-0. The Canadians came back and tied the game 2-2 which went all the way to
the 3rd period. These kids left everything out on the ice, went into overdrive and fought through a very good team top to bottom, winning the Championship 4-2.
Coaching staff and parents and all the supporters are very proud
of this victory.
Big accomplishment and well deserved!
Our Stat line was 32 goals for, 7 goals
against, 5 WINS!
Way to work!
WHO ARE WE? River Kings
