Hespeler U9 Full Ice Tournament Recap
The U9MD River Kings played in the Hespeler Tournament Family Day weekend.

We had a tough bracket 2 of the top 4 teams were in our sites which was great and exactly what we wanted.  Game one was a nail bitter vs the Tillsonburg Tornadoes who ended up finishing 1st after round robin play. Our Kings tied them 2-2 in a very tight game.  Fantastic game with two power house clubs.  After this one we knew the road was going to be difficult but we were ready for it.  Game two was vs the Caledon Hawks and the kids must have been upset with the tie because they dominated this game winning 8-1.

Saturday morning wasn’t going to be easier and we knew it.  The next two team were ahead of us in the standings and undefeated in their league play.  The morning game was against the East Nipissing Vipers and they came ready to go.  We had to match their intensity and weather many storms early on in this game.  We ended up winning this hard fought battle 3-2.  Game 4 was “win and in” situation and we were up for the challenge.  We had another tough game vs Saugeen Shores another good team with fantastic players.  We battled hard and had a 2-0 lead but Saugeen didn’t quit.  We came up a little short and ended this one in a 2-2 draw.  We didn’t get the help we needed from the other game and we finished 5th.

This weekend we were 2-0-2, the team played hard and were in some very tight games which build character.  Lots to work on moving forward and so much to be proud of.  Way to go team.  Looking forward to the next tournament.
